I just got back from a quick maintenance trip to our Florida short-term rental.

And like every visit, I walked in thinking, “Everything should be in great shape…”

…and walked out with a running list of small things to improve.

Signage & Labeling: Make It Effortless for Guests

We all love a beautifully designed digital guidebook.

But here’s the reality:

👉 Guests are busy before their trip

👉 Most won’t read everything you send

So the question becomes: How do you make sure they see what actually matters?

✔️ My approach: Hybrid system (old school + digital)

• A 3-ring binder with essential info:
  • House basics
  • Checkout instructions
  • What’s included
• QR codes linking to your full digital guidebook:
  • Local recommendations
  • Things to do
  • Extended house info

👉 This keeps critical info visible and accessible, without overwhelming them.

✔️ Strategic signage throughout the home

• Framed or acrylic signs for:
  • WiFi details
  • QR code to guidebook
  • Direct booking link
• For tricky amenities:
  • Add simple instructions
  • Or better: QR code to a short video (Example: how to start a sauna or use a hot tub)

✔️ Safety signage (high ROI, low cost)

This one’s underrated.

• Prevent damage
• Reduce liability
• Save you headaches

Think:

• Children playground rules
• Outdoor speaker rules
• Pool / hot tub reminders
• Safety camera warning
